Turkey Breakfast Patties Are the Ideal Protein on the Go.

I’ve experimented a lot with different healthy eating plans. And, while roasted veggies and bold, robust condiments are at the top of my keep-on-hand list for healthy eating, if I really want to be successful it’s all about having ready-to-go, lean protein options.

Finding a simple protein that adds a punch of flavor and nutrition to my meals is key to surviving any diet, cleanse, and really...just adulthood in general. These turkey patties are one of my current favorite proteins and make my diet (and my life) so much easier!

What Goes Into The Perfect Turkey Patty?

The ingredient list can be as simple as salt and pepper, but we went for the WOW factor here to make these the best turkey sausage patties you’ve ever had.

  • The Protein: ground turkey. Fortunately, this versatile ingredient is now just as common as ground beef. You can find it anywhere! But don’t worry, if turkey isn’t your thing try subbing ground chicken. (Just be sure you’re using dark chicken meat or your patties will be lacking in flavor.)
  • The Herbs: fresh herbs are the best way to pack serious flavor into a small package. We used basil and green onions for their bold flavor and because they pair well with freshly grated ginger and garlic. This combo gives these turkey patties their Asian flair.
  • Sauces: soy sauce or Tamari (soy sauce’s gluten-free alternative) is one of the most used ingredients in our pantries. It gives any dish (Asian or not) a rich, salty flavor that is comparable to a wine reduction. Who doesn’t love that?
  • Need to customize?: If you’re doing Whole30 or soy-based products don’t agree with you, coconut aminos are a GREAT alternative. Being naturally sweet, you can also skip out on the addition of sugar to finish off your patty if you use this substitution.

How Do You Keep Turkey Patties From Falling Apart?

If you were flipping these breakfast turkey sausage patties like hamburgers on a grill, I’d recommend adding an egg and some bread crumbs to keep them from falling apart. However, because these patties are cooked in a non stick skillet, there is no need to add anything extra. Simply form the patties in your hand, give them a little smash and get to frying!

Are Turkey Patties Healthier Than Hamburger?

This all depends on how lean your meat is. If your turkey contains dark meat, then a lean ground beef might be a lower fat option, but we’re firm believers that “a little fat” is just fine! Plus, if you’re a Keto-er you NEED that fat. If you’re just looking for some good flavor and could care less about fat content, this recipe can be used with ground pork, chicken, beef, OR turkey for equally delicious results.

Do you think 85% turkey would have enough flavor? It sounds like the 93 or 99 would be too dry.
    Thanks!

Should be fine, hope you enjoy!

These were so delicious! I’d love to double the recipe and then freeze the uncooked patties so I could cook them off fresh each morning. Do you think that would work?

    totally!

  • Kari Gressett

Delicious! I ended up blitzing the ingredients together then adding to the turkey so I wouldn't get huge chunks. The only thing I'd do differently is add less salt if you go the soy sauce and brown sugar route because that first bite does knock you off your feet a bit and I love salt.

Thanks Kari, glad you enjoyed them!

Been looking for high protein breakfast options that weren’t eggs or processed sausage/bacon and these were AWESOME! They reminded me of dumpling filling.

Thank you Mackenzie, so glad you loved them!

  • Pam

THESE are the absolute BOMB! They have so much umami flavor (coconut aminos!) and are so juicy! I made coconut rice and broccoli to pair with them for my work lunch meal prep; next time I'll make an Asian cucumber salad to enjoy with them. I'm also going to make turkey burgers with them. Thanks for another awesome recipe that knocked it out of the ballpark!

Thanks Pam, we are so glad you loved it so much!
